A major focus of the prophetic ministry is on restoring hope, courage and confidence in the heart of the believer in the overwhelming providence, sovereignty, kindness, grace and justice of God.
In the history of Israel, in moments of crisis as they were going into captivity and feeling that they faced the long, dark shadows of life alone, despair seized the heart of all.
Israel was then overjoyed to hear the breathtaking encouragement that came from the prophetic community, “I am with you, says the Lord!”
Nothing has changed. We still desperately need to know that God is with us, that we have not been forgotten. In all of the great difficulties of life many of God’s people can at times feel that hope and aspiration has dried up in their lives.
At this point, some may argue that the scriptures are surely sufficient for us? The scriptures make it abundantly clear that we are a covenant people, chosen by God and loved by Him, and further, Jesus’ own determination is clear, “I am with you always, to the end of the age”.
The answer is that such encouragement is there for all who will read it. The prophetic ministry does just that encourages the people to look to God, to have confidence in the Living Christ, the glorious, omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent God.
All things are possible with God. Remind the people of that frequently!
Encourage them that in all their heartache and hardship that God will be with them they may still have to go through great hardship (even if they belong to a Faith Church!), but God is with them and Romans 8 still has a call on their life.
Such prophetic hope is not at all about being irresponsible or turning a blind eye to what is really happening and embracing a false hope. It is a message of encouragement that is based on eternal truth that God is drawing attention to. It is a bit like bringing a spoon full of medicine. The label on this particular medicine may well be called, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart.”
A raison d’Ăªtre can be seen as to restore hope in the greatness of God. He is utterly unique, incomparable and his thoughts are beyond ours, but one thing is for certain He loves His people and has awesome plans for them.
Sometimes in the difficulties, heartache or sadness we just forget. Sometimes in our distractions of activity, excitement and life we just as easily can look the wrong way.
“I am with you, says the Lord!” Prophets Remind us!
And remind us when we have gone one way and God went the other way!
God is massively interested in the lives of His people. The doctrine of God’s immutability as an incommunicable attribute is pure gold in a situation like this.
There I told you doctrine was brilliant! What that means is that there are some qualities about God that He doesn’t share with us. One of them is that He does not change. So when Scripture says that God is love, it means that He always is love.
He never ever gets more loving, and certainly never is less loving.
So when God says He loves us and is for us, He REALLY means it. God works ALL things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. Tell people about this as a fact, not as a question. Restore hope in the heart of the believer by sharing God’s wonderful truth.
